National Gallery

National gallery is situated to the north side of the Trafalgar square. It houses a wide collection of 23,000 works by some of the renowned artists of Western European art in the span of 1260 up to 1900. The Gallery does host exhibitions off and on so as to let the visitors let a panorama of work in its collection.

It was in the year 1824, that the House of Commons agreed to give in amount of £57,000 for purchase of a collection of 38 paintings by Angerstein with the intention to educate and entertain all. This collection formed a new national collection, and was put on display at Pall Mall, wherein the house of Angerstein was situated until the gallery building's construction was completed.
